School Performances

During the school year, we have a variety of performances at Sherwood.  As a community, we believe it is important that our students experience the joy, excitement and nervousness that accompanies performing and we want to make that experience as positive as possible.  We want to celebrate our students showing what they know!  Therefore, we have some expectations for our whole community during performances.

The playground, the courtyard and the covered area will not be open for students during evening events, as these areas are not supervised.  Whether the performance takes place in the gym or a classroom, these areas are closed for students.  Even if a parent volunteers to be outside with students, it creates liability issues.  The hill next to the playground is always off limits, during and after the school day.

While we know it might be challenging for siblings to fully attend during an evening event, as a staff, we feel it is important to teach children to be good audience members and to support their siblings who are performing. If you have other children who are not participating in the scheduled event, please make sure they stay with you in the gym (or wherever the evening event is taking place).  We are talking with students at school about being good audience members, so they should be familiar with what a good audience member does.  Thank you for your attention to this!

It is also important to park in legal parking spaces.  We will open the gates to the covered area for additional parking on evenings when we have performances.  Please do not park in the front parking lot in front of the gym, as that is the fire lane.

We always look forward to our students being able to show what they have learned and we are excited to share their learning with you!
